Vice Chancellor of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology during Launching of the university website

Today is a great day in the history of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology. It is the day that marks the launching of university website in the history of establishment of this higher learning institution in the Republic of South Sudan since 2008. This day is of significance particularly in the world of science and technology. The website puts the university on the sphere in the world of academia, science and technology.

From this perspective, the university will have access to share scientific and technological information with various universities regionally and globally with ease. Information concerning university academic activities including curricula, university calendar, graduation ceremonies, detail information about teaching staffs, administrators, email addresses, methods and procedures of admission, publishing of students results from various colleges and any other contact information would likely be obtained through the website. In addition, Facts and information of how to fight covid-19 will also be shared through the website. Therefore, website is an instrumental facility for our university and I congratulated all the university staff, students, support staff and laborers for this tremendous achievement during this period.

On the other hand, and equally important there are additional achievements. The university has now installed solar system.54 solar panels and 36 solar batteries are fixed and the light will function for 24 hours daily. This was a donation from Sungate company. Further, our computer lab is currently equipped with about 30 desk top brand new computers. However, floods have made land transport difficult otherwise, our lab equipment and furniture from Sungate and STEM company would have been fixed in Bor.

Moreover, let me announce that we purchased almost most of our building materials for the ten lecture halls and ten offices for professors and teaching staffs. If roads were accessible, we would have transported them to the university in Bor since August 2020 and start the construction to completion for a duration of 3 to 6 months with the aim of making them to be ready for use in January, 2021.The construction of ten lecture halls and offices was initially proposed since 2019 but now with covid-19, it suffices to note that it will serve to be a coping up mechanism to meeting covid-19 conditions such as social distancing.

Another good news to note concerning our conversation with MD of Intertorco company is that the construction of the university to a world class standard will embody construction of a lake that harvests flood water for multiple uses. The lake will host fish, crocodiles and hippo species for tourists’ activities. Also a tourist hotel will be built alongside this artificial lake. The assumption is to solve the flood destruction in Bor town and to promote economic development of the state and the country at large.

 God bless us all.
